Cough Assist Training (CPD Certified)

This training is made for people like nurses, carers, and support workers who help others with breathing problems. It teaches how to safely use a special machine called a cough assist — a device that helps people cough if they can’t do it on their own.

Some people with weak muscles or certain illnesses can’t clear mucus from their lungs. That can make them very sick. This course shows how to help them breathe better and avoid things like infections or going to the hospital.

What the Course Teaches:

This training is for people who care for others with breathing troubles. These might be people with muscle problems, spinal injuries, or other health issues that make it hard for them to cough.

The course is approved for CPD (Continuing Professional Development), which means it counts as official learning for healthcare workers.

• How the lungs and coughing normally work

• Why some people can’t cough well on their own

• What a cough assist machine is and how it works

• Who needs this machine (like people with muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, ALS, etc.)

• When not to use the machine and how to stay safe

• How to set up the machine and adjust the settings

• How to use it properly with patients

• How to fix common problems and handle side effects

• How to clean and look after the machine

• How to write down what you did and share it with the care team

You’ll also get to practice using the machine on a dummy (training mannequin) so you feel confident doing it for real.
